Will India collapse?
It is hard to predict weather or not India will collapse entirely. They have a functional go nment, a military the Indian people are proud of, a fast growing economy and something resembling a unified national identity. However, there is no getting around the fact that India right now is facing a series of crises that are near impossible to deal with in the current geopolitical atmosphere and local political situation...
1.In spite of the growth of the Indian middle class over the past few years, the overwhelming majority of the country is living in a level of poverty which, according to a United Nations report, is more severe than most African countries.
2.The monsoon cycle in some parts of India is essentially six months of floods and six months of drought. Crops are easily destroyed in these environments and there simply aren't enough farms in India to feed the population in the long term.
3.Foreign corporations which exploit India's working population for cheep labor have too much control over the go nment.
4.India's population is currently at 1.25 billion. By 2050 it is expected to hit 1.52 billion, surpassing even China which is expected to be hovering around 1.29 billion. The current population growth is unsustainable. There won't be enough food available, jobs will be scarce and famines and plagues would be unavoidable even with international aid. Lack of contraceptives hasn't helped, and the go nment has done almost nothing to stop the population growth. At this point even if they were to implement a one-child policy similar to the one in China, which is unlikely to ever happen, the population would still pass the Malthusian limit well before 2100.
